Gumbo Shop

I am at home on the computer and did some work to the Gumbo hop menu design. I worked on this in In-design and I imported my text from the subject forum. It was very annoying at first because I had to re format the entire text word for word one line at a time which hurts my eyes as I feel a big serve of confusing dyslexia coming on where everything is in one big block. Its amazing how it makes allot more sense when you start breaking the information up into sections it’s a bit hard to take when it is one big paragraph.

I aligned all of the text to the left and witched off the hyphenation box. I changed the text size and made all the headings in capital letters and I also made all the headings blue and the rest of the writing black. I aligned all the prices on the wine list to the right hand side and made sure it wasn’t too close to the rest of the text. It took longer to divide that text than I thought. I guess that’s just another problem worth solving.

I kept this design very simple in fact I don’t think it is complete at all but is tidy and clean anyhow. I’m running out of time to do anymore work on it so I decided
to leave it how it is.

Below I have a few images of the menu. It is the first three pages so here they are.

Overview page 3

Here is the final page of these notes.

The bus and Van

The design on these is important for it is advertisement on wheels. The design on these vehicles is something that could be broadly recognised in the community and will be viewed by many. These have the secondary graphics is modified in the way that the design can work with the shapes and dimensions. This is also accompanied with the logo and web address on the side of the bus and van.

The pantone colour selection

The colours used in all of these designs are pantone solid coated colour. It is important to keep a record of this in case of further changes to the designs. It can be used as a reference for both the designer and the client. Another good reason for this is for printer purposes. The colours included are:

Pantone black C, Pantone 274 C, Pantone blue 072, Pantone 2716 C, Pantone 2707 C, Pantone Hexacrome Yellow C, Pantone 100 C, Pantone 431C C, Pantone 430 C, Pantone 427 C.

Accompanying fonts

The fonts are also important to keep a record of as well as the colours due to the fact that they are vulnerable to unexpected or unwanted changes under certain circumstances. The fonts used in these designs are very commonly used and are considered to be quite standard. This has been done for the simple reason that there will be allot fewer

complications and unwanted changes that could be possible in the future. This also makes the type more printer and designer friendly.

The fonts used include: Arial rounded MT bold/regular, Century gothic/bold and

regular, Myriad/Roman.

Preliminary work

The preliminary process work is significant in the way that it is the process that all of these designs have been through over time in order to create a good end result and it is also part of what developed the themes and personality of the designs. It also allows there to be more flexibility in the way that there are many options to work with.

PowerPoint presentation blog

Well now that I have the whole thing pieced together I started making a PowerPoint slide show with my work in it. I decided that I didn’t want to make the presentation complicated at all so I made a basic one with my images displayed on the page. I started with the title page and then I just worked through the rest of the images gradually and just centred them in the middle of the page. This includes my type, colour picker and I also put my preliminary stuff in there as well to show some of the process that I went through. I originally was going to do a flash presentation but no I thought I would do it in PowerPoint instead because I though if I’m going to keep it simple then use a simpler program.

Well I’m going to wrap this one up for now because I haven’t had a coffee for ages and yeah I’m hanging for one to so bye.

overview page 2

Here I have the second page of my design overview and desription with an image included.

The secondary graphics

The secondary graphics is what helps bring out a personality and a consistent theme. This is used so that Rings of Saturn can be easily identified. With these designs the support graphics consists of several pantone colours and a series of vector shapes. The shape has a curved path, which has a subtle but noticeable way of resembling the Rings of Saturn on its own.

Business card designs

The business card has the logo slightly off centre and has the secondary graphic curved around the left hand side. The logo is very bold so this gives the design a smoother feel, which takes away from possible harshness. The text is justified to the centre of the card and the font size is size seven. As well as having the final design for this there are several other card options presented that are similar which appear to be almost equal in their success design wise. This will allow for further expansion and adjustment if necessary.

Letterhead

The letterheads design has a similar theme and character as the business cards but is adjusted to suit its purpose. Included are the logo, the address and phone details with other important information, and a sample letter.

Outdoors sign

This is based on the same concept as the letterhead, which includes the logo, the graphics and information details such as trading hours. The sign’s intended materials for production includes: The frame work made with a cast iron and aluminium frame and bass, The secondary graphics airbrushed on using metallic and enamel paint. The logo and the information are to be printed on by a sign writer along with the original airbrush work design.

Colour picker and list of type

I went into the jack cross centre this afternoon because I went to the morning class instead so I went in there for the whole afternoon. I needed to do some print outs of my work so far to see what they look like. I did notice some things that needed fixing like on my business cards I found that the font and the logo was too large and I remember doing that in the last assignment so I fixed that one up. In my letterhead the font was too large where the address details were and it was too far over to the right as well,

Once I did all of that I started work on gathering up the Pantone colours that I used while working on my projects. I put both a colour example with the technical description of what it is and made a colour picker.

I did this same process with the fonts that I used. I decided to stick with standard types of font to avoid complications with it opening with different applications. I opened a illustrator file and made some font examples by looking for them in the list.

Here I have the images of what I did with the collection of my fonts and my Pantone colours.

Overview for Rings Of Saturn Publishers

Here I have text for the overview and description of my designs in relation to the corporate identity theme. This describes the purpose and gives and overview of the things I have done and states the purposes of what they are for. Included is an list of my designs. With these notes I arranged them in illustrator with some graphics to make it much more interesting to look at and to make the written description an actual part of my design work. At the bottom of the page I have an image of what it looks like completed.

Corporate Logo Design

The main logo design has pantone colours, used, which are blue and yellow, and the accompanying font is also blue. This logo is made up of a blue rectangle and an image of a circle with a spiral surrounding it, which clearly resembles a simple and easy to recognise image for Rings Of Saturn using colours that are bold and contrasting for the eye to see which is important for the logo’s success. The colours were also carefully selected so that it can be viewed successfully as a greyscale image. It has been presented in four different sizes so that the logo can work when scaled differently.

Letterhead and sign

Well it’s another day and another blog. Today I decided to finish off my letterhead and my sign part of the project. It took me a while to get going today because it is just full of every distraction under the son like people knocking on the door for example. Yeah I love visitors allot of the time but today isn’t a good time.

With my letter head I wanted to keep a theme happening so I used the secondary graphics in the background that I was using in my business card and find a way to get it to work together and all of that.

I did my sign using exactly the same concept for simplicity sake as well as keeping the theme. I imported the text from my email and worked with that as well after I got my basic layout happening.

Well that’s enough for today so here are the images of letterhead and of my sign.
