Van and bus work

Man I found it really hard to get up this morning as soon as I exposed my face to the world it felt so iced out it was cold and my blankets weren’t doing the job properly either. It was so cold I hated it and normally I like it not today I’m afraid. Unfortunately I had to get my sorry arse out of bed because there was just too much shit to get through man I hate the mornings I reckon mornings are the hardest part of facing a day.

Well it’s not a good day to be outside because of the rain today so I started working on my bus and van idea for The Rings of Saturn. I had an idea in mind of how I was going to modify the secondary graphics that I made to try and get it to work and it was just how I expected it to be a hassle. It was one of those things where you get stuck on the one thing for like ages before you can move on to the next step. It’s a situation that takes a long time to resolve.

I got stuck on trying to get my graphics to fit into the outside shape of both my van and the bus I got a nice flowing thing happening with the vector shapes and the colour scheme was ok. I eventually got the shapes to work by creating new shapes and mucking around with the path finder for ages but I got there in the end so cool.

Any way here are the images of the Van and bus.

saturn Bussiness cards

Well I decided to start some work on my business card today. I opened an illustrator document in the size of a business card and imported a copy of my logo. I started by resizing my logo duplicated it several times and looked at it at different sizes to see weather or not it was too large or small compared to the size of the business cards size. I then positioned the logo on different parts of the project to see what would work the best.

I then imported the text that I needed for the card. I displayed the text in various kinds of ways to also see what would look more successful. I looked at different fonts and sizes and experimented for a while with those for a while. I wanted to find a font that wasn’t to complicated as a matter of fact I wanted to stick to something that was pretty standard that wouldn’t conflict with my logo.

I then looked at how I needed to come up with some secondary graphics to give my idea a proper identity that could be used as a theme throughout my work. So I started to make shapes in illustrator and I experimented with the path finder to get the necessary clipping on the edges to fit my project space for the card.

I came up with a pattern and colour scheme that I really quite liked and I was really happy with it. I came up with a series of curved shapes that fit inside each other and scaled at different sizes. The shapes were subtle but a kind of obvious that it does resemble the rings of Saturn in the background. I then looked at the different colours that I could use Pantone colours of course. I came up with four business cards all varied from each other colour wise to see which one was more effective. I think I will end up going with the one with the three colours in the secondary graphic which consists of two different types of pantone blue and a Yellow. With the text I used Pantone black and another type of blue.

I also made another copy of my business card and made a greyscale copy to see how the colours will look in comparison to each other and compared to the logo as well.

I’m really happy with my secondary graphic I actually think that my secondary graphic is stronger and more successful than my logo. It’s making my logo look slightly bad, oh well.

Well that’s enough crapping on for now, getting thirsty. I put the image on here of my four varied business card including my final idea and I have put the greyscale copy on here as well.

The Final logo Idea

Well I have done a lot of work playing around with many different ideas over the last few weeks or so. I think that now I finally decided what Logo I want to use. There is one logo that I did that I really Liked and I really enjoyed working with that Idea but I didn’t end up using it because I struggled to resolve the issue I was having with the text been far too long compared to the image so that disappointed me a little. So I decided to go with a logo that I made that didn’t have that issue.

The final logo I came up with is an image of a round ball resembling Saturn with a spiral shape resembling the rings of Saturn spiralling around the ball shape. I had great difficulty getting that Spiral to look the way I wanted it to but it was ok in the end. The text was below the box on the outside. With all the work that I have done I feel that this logo was more viable and stronger than some of the others.

With all of my logos I used pantone colours and in this piece of work the colours I used are: Pantone blue 072 C and Pantone Hexacrome yellow. I only used two colours with this logo design.

I separated the logo into a separate project and scaled it at four different sizes so that it can be viewed to see what that would look like. I also made a greyscale copy of this as well.

The main critical analysis that I would make is that the stroke on the spiral shape slightly changes shape and size when scaled differently but still looks ok though so it’s not too bad.

Well I think that is enough blabbing for now I have a copy below of my final logo at different sizes and I have the grey scale version as well.

Reading for week 7

Well in This I had a look at the love marks website the future beyond brands. I can imagine that could possibly happen one day. The world will so branded to the point that they are just not powerful enough anymore and we may need something more powerful than brands so I imported this section at the start of the site that got my attention in particular.

Brands have run out of juice. More and more people in the world have grown to expect great performance from products, services and experiences. And most often, we get it. Cars start first time, fries are always crisp, dishes shine.

A few years ago, Saatchi & Saatchi looked closely at the question: What makes some brands inspirational, while others struggle?

Love marks are for the highest level companies and products and it would be something that has to be earned which involve companies with the highest level of performance that could go beyond customer expectations to get the best results and an outstanding reputation. Well that’s my brief description about that here is the link below.

Logos greyscale

Well after doing a fair bit of work working on my logos I had that tendency which is typical of me to go straight into full blown colours with y designs instead of starting out using black and white. So I thought that because I rushed ahead of my self like I often do that I would have a second look at all of the ideas that I have come up with so far and have a look at them in black and white and in greyscale. I was actually surprised because I thought that with a lot of them the shades of grey might not be strong or bold enough in the form of greyscale. I thought that I would need to go back and do some serious editing to the colour scheme because I needed them to look equally as good in greyscale. It wasn’t as bad as I thought because some of the logos needed changing but most of the ones that I really liked didn’t need any big changes only subtle things.

The logos I used to do this were the some of the ideas involving rings accompanied by text and some of the logos that were inside coloured boxes. The colour schemes didn’t work out too bad in greyscale considering I actually did them in colour first.

One of the logos I had inside a box that had a subtle colour scheme and had the text inside the box with the logo turned out pretty sad in greyscale which I was expecting too happen. The colours all looked very similar too each other and it really didn’t stand out at all really. The text was very hard to read and it looked like it had all the life sucked out of it completely. At a small scale it looked extremely vague.

Well I think that pretty much wraps it up for today’s blog because I’m hanging for something to eat. Below I have an image of my logos in greyscale format.

Experimental logos part 2

I imported some images off the internet to help me come up with some ideas to work with. I used a couple of images of Saturn and vectorized them in illustrator and started experimenting with the shape and colour I came up with some good Saturn like logo images that would suit rather well. One of these was really easy to work with because the original internet picture that I used was really simple and only consisted of a few colours. I came up with the logo of a simple Saturn log accompanied by text. It was good but it didn’t feel like it was quite resolved or finished.

I came up with this idea of the logo with rings on a slanted angle but then I duplicated the logo and reflected it in the opposite direction and overlapped it over the top of the other copy whilst facing the other way and it created multiple rings with a planet in the centre of it all. I then added blue text and I changed the image to the same colour as well. It looked good in the end but I didn’t end up wanting to use this logo in the end because I thought it could be a little confusing for some people and the image also looked to clattered when viewed at a small scale.

Then I went back and came up with more ideas involving rings surrounding a planet and these were quite fresh and different to the ideas I came up with previously. With these new logos that I came up with I decided to make a number of different coloured boxes and placed some of the images I made inside them to see how it would look and to see weather it made the logo designs look stronger or weaker. I then continued to vary the colours of the logos and the boxes accordingly to see if it gave them a bolder impact.

After this I started adding text to go with them. At first I tried putting the text inside the box with the logos but then I realized that because of the colour sequence I was using the text will look to vague when it is looked upon on a much smaller scale. So I then put the text underneath the box just on the outside and I think that made the text work well with the image.

I have a below some logo designs that I have been working with in illustrator. I eventually had to separate some of my designs into separate projects because I was working with far too much at once on the one page.

Rings of Saturn Logo Experiments

Well I sure spent a lot of time working on logos today I actually got a lot more done than I was expecting considering I had a pretty slow start this morning. I kind of didn’t know what to do with this topic at first and my logo ideas weren’t really going anywhere at first. I must have been in the right frame of mind today because I kept on coming up with new ideas all the time. It was like one thing leading to another sort of thing.

The first idea that I came up with was just a basic round planet like ball surrounded with several circles that gradually get larger around each other. I played with this idea for a while only using black and white. I then added some colours to see how it would look. The idea was interesting but I don’t think it was quite strong enough in the end.

I then came up with another idea and this one was an idea involving more experimentation with rings. One of these was simply rings looped on to each other on the sides in a row. This started in black and white as well. I then added colour to it, bright colours at that. It looked ok but then I realized that if I moved the two end rings underneath the first three rings that it would almost be identical to the Olympic Games logo. I started changing it by adding fill rather than just using stroke and changing the colours around and I also tried overlapping the rings in a different combination of ways but it looked a little like a slinky. Oh well it was fun but.

I made a quarter of a circle with rings inside it. I then experimented with colours and text. At first some of the colours looked a bit rainbow and one of the variations looked a bit too much like a radiant sun. Then I came up with a combination that I quite liked by deleting a couple of in-between sections of the logo and found a good colour scheme. The next challenge I had was the Rings of Saturn publisher text that needed to go with the logo. The text was just far too long for the logo and it didn’t matter where I put it, it just would not work. I got the colours and sizes to match the logo and establish a relationship between the text and logo and that worked but I couldn’t escape the problem that the text was just too long compared to the accompanying image so I thought I would give that one a break for a while.

Oh well I think that’s enough blogging for now it’s kind getting late so I will continue this logo discussion later Seya.

Rings of Saturn Internet search

Well I’m feeling pretty fresh out of ideas at the moment. I think its because it is the start of the term and I just haven’t got into the swing of things coming back from the Easter break and all. I found it a bit hard to concentrate in class the other day because I kind of felt like I was only just starting to wake up from a very deep sleep and felt a little fuzzy.

Oh we just went over everything that has to be done this term and had a quick run down again on the assessment sheet and the subject outline. I think it should be a bit easier this time anyway because it’s a pretty similar assignment to last term except it should be better than the last one that’s all.

Today I did some browsing on the internet to try and source out some ideas for my project I had a look at images that had pictures of Saturn on it with rings and had a look at what I might be able to do with them to see if I can create something from it to help make my logos.

I had a look at images based on publishers to also see what they came up with. Well I think those images give some ideas of what to do colour wise. I like the ones that have bright bold colours but I don’t know how they would go for printing though.

Well here are some of the images I used below I better go now dinner is in the
oven and I
better keep an eye Seya.
